Raid Foods

January 15th, 2009 by admin

Foods that are give buffs for raids sell rather quickly and for a decent price on the AH.  Obtaining the meat isn’t that hard. Usually you can buy the meat/fish on the AH cook it and resell it for profit.  Also you can make more gold as a skinner if you farm the mobs for food (since you would be doing “2” farming tasks in “1”).  I get all my meat/fish off the AH and only make the foods that give a decent profit.

The main tricks to making gold off cooking raid foods, is to learning when to list them and which ones to make.

When to list them

As with flasks and pots, raid consumables should be listed an hour before normal raid days on your server. On my server normal raid times are at 7:30 on Tue-Thurs-Sun so I list them at 6:30 on those days. This way I am the lowest person on the market, and they are listed at the time when they are searched for the most.

Popular Foods

The best in game food for each buff requires Northrend spices. This can be very costly to make and since they are so expensive compared to the lower WotLK recipe, they don’t sell as well. If you want to try selling these, I would recommend making a stack and seeing how well they sell.  If they don’t sell well it may be best to use the spices to cook food for yourself, or sell the spices on the AH.

The second best in game food require Northrend meat but no Northrend spices. These are the middle of the road food for someone who wants the buff but doesn’t want to pay ridiculous prices. They also tend to use less meat in the recipe as well.

The third best raid food in the game is Outland recipes.  The meat for these is relatively cheap and easy to farm, and most people do not craft these any more to put up on the AH. The down side is most people don’t think to look for outland food when they look for raid buffs. However, this area sells quicker than the best food in game.

One thing that is worth considering…

I have three toons with sufficiently high cooking skill to do the Dalaran daily cooking quest. Because there is no real benefit to having all the recipes on all the toons, I just use tokens to buy recipes on my main chef.

With the other two toons, I’ll get the cooking award and trade it in for ten spices. These spices sell all the time for 5g each on my server. So, for the recipes that require a minimal investment of materials (e.g. six half full glasses of wine and one cheese), this translates into 50g per toon, not considering the bags which may have additional spices or even a token.
